Mama Carla’s Smoky Pea Soup
1 bag of dried split peas
½ onion diced
3 pieces of garlic chopped fine
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
1tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
3 bay leaves
2 tsp hickory smoke flavoring
2 tsp cracked black Pepper
and salt to taste

Rinse dried peas with cold water and remove any
debris.  Place peas in a soup pot and cover with water;
about twice as much water as there are peas.  Add all
other ingredients.  Cook over medium heat stirring
occasionally  and adding water as necessary to keep
peas covered for 1 ½ to 2 hours.  You can also add sliced
carrots for a yummy variation and extra nutrition.
